The border area with Pakistan of 11 feet wide and 540 km long will be acquired by Punjab government to prevent interruptions and cross-border smuggling. It is taken into account to resolve farmer problems such as farming restrictions due to patrolling. The Punjab Chief Minister had requested to the center regarding acquisition of land to ease problems faced by land owners. Assistant Solicitor General of India, senior lawyer Chetan Mittal had sought time to seek instructions from the home ministry and the very next day ministry had allowed Punjab government to acquire land.
